Why I Don’t Work?

3 day weekends, vacations, Fridays….all words that make us SMILE! This weekend I was invited to a resort to celebrate Independence Day with some great friends. My answer, of course, was “Yes, I don’t have to work Monday”.

During my overnight ‘staycation’, I spent some time at the pool. While I was at the pool….of course I was watching everyone (I love to people watch)! As I laid on the lounge chair, soaking up the sun….it was only a warm 107’, I wasn’t paying attention to the hustle and bustle of all of the guests enjoying themselves anymore. Instead, I happened to glance over at a gentleman, dressed in a long sleeve button down shirt, long pants while holding a broom. He had my attention! The more I observed him, the more it became apparent that he was happy “working”. My thought was of course, are you kidding me…it’s 100+ degrees out and you’re sweeping, watering plants, cleaning up the resort and had a SMILE on his face??  Really???

It’s odd sometimes the places our minds take us but I realized that no matter what you do, “Choose a  job you love and you’ll never have to work a day in your life” – Confucius. I know, I know, the economy isn’t the best, I want to work on Wall Street, not cleaning the streets! There are times that we don’t have the choice to choose but it doesn’t mean you have to wake up everyday in agony! Being grateful for what we have makes the things we don’t have not seem so important. The groundskeeper at the resort was happy, smiling and considerate, while I was feeling sorry for him? He obviously, didn’t have a problem with what he was doing and actually appeared to be enjoying himself!

I’m not trying to convince you that everyday at work is happy happy but what I am saying is that if you are passionate and really enjoy what you do, WORK doesn’t have to be a four letter word.  I have good days, bad days, amazing days but I know at the end of the day what drives me  and what I love to do… there isn’t a question mark at the end.  www.yourtitlegal.com
